Gary Lee Bidwell, Sr.

Gary Lee Bidwell, Sr., 79, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born October 2, 1942 in Meadville, a son of Forest Linn and Marjorie Belle Rickard Bidwell.  He married Jan Ellis August 9, 1982 and she preceded him in death May 18, 2020.

Gary was a 1960 graduate of Randolph High School.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1960 to 1963 with service aboard the USS Preble.  He worked as a painter at Joy Manufacturing in Franklin for over 30 years.

Gary enjoyed “chewing the fat” in his garage with family and friends while enjoying a few cocktails especially after it was insulated and always heated during the winter.  He also enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing.

Survivors include four children, Sheila Marie Rankin of Pittsburgh, Melonie Courson (David) of Meadville, Kristine Armold of Pittsburgh, and Gary (Toby) Bidwell, Jr. of Meadville; a stepson, Duane Marvin (Julie) of Meadville; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Kennedy of Florida; a brother, Robert (Bob) Bidwell (Diane) of Arizona; nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Libby and Lexie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Doris Bestwick.

Services are private with naval burial at sea per Gary’s request.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
