Gayle T. Knapp, 82, of Meadville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
He was born November 12, 1939 in Meadville, a son of the late Melvin and Katherine Knapp. Gayle was a 1957 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High and Grove City College with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1965. He married Ruth Knapp on June 29, 1963; she preceded him in death on October 16, 2019. Gayle worked as a Director of Gelvin, Jackson, and Starr in insurance and financial advising for over forty years and had a true passion for helping people.
Gayle was an active member of the Lighthouse Community Church in Conneaut Lake, where he was serving as the chairman of the finance committee. In the past he had served as an elder and a deacon in the Presbyterian Church in Meadville. He was on numerous community boards including the Meadville Redevelopment Authority and the Greendale Cemetery Board of Corporators to name a few. He was also a very active volunteer advisor with the Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight with the Active Aging Center. It gave him great joy and purpose assisting individuals with their Medicare needs. In the past he was a Kiwanis Club member and former president. He spent many summers working at the Kiwanis Kitchen cooking pancakes/eggs and loved interacting with the people. He enjoyed golf, racquetball, singing in the church choir, traveling, and spending time with his friends and family (especially his only grandson that brought him great joy).
Survivors, in addition to his sister Marilyn Cullom (Jim) of North Carolina, include a son, Derek Knapp of London, England; a daughter, Laura Way (Brad) of Avon, OH; and one grandson, Caden Way.
