Gaylord O. Wentworth, 87, of (Mt. Hope) 29521 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills, PA 16327 died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Randolph Township, Crawford County September 24, 1914, a son of the late Harry Lee and Kerna Oakes Wentworth. He married Sara (Sally) Enos August 17, 1940 and she survives.
He was a 1932 graduate of Randolph High School, Guys Mills. He was a partner in Wentworth Auto Sales, Mt. Hope with his father, and brother, the late Paul Wentworth, and more recently with John Bowser who continues to operate the 72-year old dealership. He was a member of the Automotive Hall of Fame, having been a dealer for over 50 years. He served as a Crawford County Republican committeeman and as a Pennsylvania State Republican committeeman. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #408, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie, the Royal Order of Jesters, Kismet Grotto of Meadville, and member and past president of the Crawford County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the finance committee at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community and the Crawford County Board of Directors of the PA Dept. of Public Welfare.
He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church where he had served in many capacities.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, survivors include a son, Philip B. Wentworth of Mt. Hope and a daughter, Anne Wentworth Brill and her husband E. Downey Brill, Jr. of Cary, NC; 3 grandchildren, Mary Kathleen, Meredith, and Downey Brill; and 7 nephews and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Wentworth and a sister, Gladys Wentworth Hoffman.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Russell, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
