George Ackinclose

August 3, 1884 — July 6, 1909

George Ackinclose, 67, a printer for a half century and former mechanical superintendent of The Tribune Newspapers, died last night at his home, 682 Walnut St., after an illness of several months.

He came to the Tribune in 1910 after working on newpapers at Louisville, KY, New York City, Franklin, and Erie.

He was a linotype machine operator before becoming Tribune mechanical superintendent.  He learned the printing trade at Roscoe in the Monongahela Valley and became a charter member of the Roscoe Typographical Union July 6, 1909.

A native of Roscoe, he spent his early life in that vicinity.

At his death, Ackinclose had been a member of the ITU for 42 years.  His fellow workers and management of the Tribune Newspapers honored him at a banquet in August, 1949, when he received a 40- years membership pin.  He had been active in the printing trade here until several months ago.

Ackinclose was a member of Stone Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Stewart Ackinclose; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Sherman, Rochester, NY and Mrs. Joseph Talaski, Tuscan, AZ; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Gilmore, Wilmerding and Mrs. Jane Fitch, Monogahela City; three brothers, Thomas of Dravosburg, Garnet of Wilson, PA and Murrell Ackinclose, Youngstown; and four granchildren.

Friends may call Friday at Waid Funeral Home, Walnut St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
