George E. Kareha, 83, formerly of Meadville, and a resident of Miller Memorial Home, died there Monday, December 20, 2004.
He was born in Jessup, PA, March 15, 1921, a son of John and Mary Kudrec Kareha. He married Virginia Homes, July 11, 1970 and she preceded him in death May 31, 1997.
He worked as a candy maker for 3 years with McNally & Doyle Confectionery of Cleveland, 6 years with the Higby Store of Cleveland, 4 years with Malley's Candy of Lakewood, OH and for 3 years with Burch's Confectionery Store in Meadville. He then worked briefly at Channellock. He finished his working career in 1983 in the carpentry shop of the former Meadville Malleable after 13 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II with the IS Army Rangers serving in Europe and serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters. He was also a member of the VFW.
Survivors, include three daughters, Doreen Riis of Las Vegas, NV and Donna Kareha and Gail Kareha, both of Florida; one son, Ronald Kareha of Largo, FL; one brother, Paul L. Kareha (Dorothy) of Conneaut Lake; a niece, Tracy Rendulic (Bob) and their daughter, Becca of Conneaut Lake and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Smetana and Margaret Marhoefer and two brothers, John Kareha and Albert Kareha.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
