George E. King

George E. (Hi) (Jack) King, 89, of 879 Lafayette St., Meadville, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville. He was born in Meadville April 26, 1917, a son of George A. and Dora Elizabeth Jones King. He married Mildred Humphrey October 3, 1942 and she survives. He was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School, and a 1939 graduate of Ryder College, Trenton, NJ. He retired in 1982 from the Accounts Payable department of Avtex, after 34 years and he worked part time at Jacks Pharmacy for several years. Previously he had worked at Talon for 10 years. He was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of operations, was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing, and visiting with people. Survivors in addition to his wife of 64 years, include 2 sons, Edward H. King and his wife Regina of Saegertown, and Robert A. King and his wife Judy of Erie, 6 grandchildren, Rachel, Amanda, Sara, Jason, Rich, and Tim, 1 great granddaughter, Aubree Grace, 1 sister, Ruth King of Meadville, 3 nieces, Susan. Mary, and Catherine. He was preceded in death by one sister, Cecile DeKriuf. There are no calling hours. The Eucharist/Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Christ Episcopal Church, 970 Diamond Park, Meadville with The Very Rev. Robert C. Martin as celebrant. Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, PA Memorials may be made to Christ Church, Episcopal, 970 Diamond Park, Meadville, PA 16335. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
