George E. Warp

George E. Warp, 78, of 11328 Oakgrove Avenue, Meadville, died Thursday March 13, 2003, at Wesbury United Methodist Community after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Guys Mills, October 11, 1924, a son of Celyn & Amy Custead Warp.  He married Helen J. Bachiak July 9, 1947, and she preceded him in death December 16, 1985.

He was employed at Talon as a machine operator and in the Tool Crib, retiring in 1984, after 40 years of service.  He also was a part-time barber, school bus driver, and backhoe operator.

He was a graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School, Guys Mills, a veteran of World War II serving as a Staff Sgt. with the U. S. Army Air Corps in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of operations.  He was the recipient of 8 Distinguished Flying Cross medals, and 8 Bronze Stars.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, VFW Post #2006, was a certified scuba diver, enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, treasurer hunting, and had enjoyed swimming, and playing basketball.

He had been excitedly anticipating the arrival of his first great grandchild.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Estes of Meadville; a son, Dennis A. Warp of Meadville; a sister, June Woolstrum of Cooperstown; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jennifer, and Julia Estes, and Ryan & Matthew Warp, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Pamela Warp, and a sister, Janice Cutshall.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.  The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Solomon, pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, officiating.

Following cremation, burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
