George L. Sandberg

April 7, 1895 — February 8, 1976

George L. Sandberg, 80, retired city service station operator and former owner of an automotive replacement parts business, died at City Hospital Sunday, February 8, 1976, after a brief illness.

He was born in Brocton, NY, April 7, 1895, son of Otto A. and Ida S. Sanberg.  He married Margaret E. Hayes, October 4, 1932.  He came to Meadville in 1926 from Oil City.

Mr. Sandberg operated a Pennzoil Refining Co. service station for 43 years, retiring in September 1969.  He was owner of Sandberg Bros., wholesaler of automotive replacement parts, at the corner of North Street and Park Avenue, selling it in 1969.

A veteran of World War I, Mr. Sandberg was a member of Stone United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge 408; the Erie Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Crawford County Shrine Club, a life member of BPOE Elks and of Meadville Country Club.

Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Saundra Lee Rollins of Southfield, MI; a sister, Mrs. Mabel White of Gaithersburg, MD; two grandchildren, D'Arcy Ann and Clark L. Rollins; a niece and a nephew.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
