George R. Gilliand

George R. Gilliand, 91, of Northfield, OH, formerly of Meadville, died at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Monday, December 17, 1979, following a brief illness.

He was born in Ruffs Dale, Westmoreland County, November 18, 1888, son of James E. and Ann A. Horning Gilliand.  He married Madge Franklin September 3, 1913.

Gilliand retired in 1972 after being self-employed for more than 30 years as a partner at the Mead Barber Shop in Meadville.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Barbers Union.

In addition to his wife, Gilliand is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Marion) Balogh of Northfield; a son, George A. of Roanoke, VA; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Barnhart of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Mary Fallowfield of Pitcairn; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
