George T. Phelps

George T. Phelps, 76, of Conneaut Lake, died at North Park Manor, Sunday, September 4, 1983, after a one-year illness.

He was born at New Castle, November 10, 1906, a son of Thomas and Susan Rigby Phelps.  He married Evabelle Viets, who died in 1955.  He subsequently married Marian Armour Hoffman in 1959.

He taught school for several years, then worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube, from where she retired in 1972 after 32 years of service as an industrial engineer.

A member of Stone United Methodist Church, he graduated from Bethany College and Duke University.  He also was a member of Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge 194 of Urichsville, OH; Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie; Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie and Crawford County Shrine Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Marjorie) Christies of Hubbard, OH and Mrs. Robert (Sue Ann) Michael of New Castle; a son, David E. Phelps of Cambridge, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Eli (Ann) Wiggins, Mrs. Robert ( Eleanor) Burns and Mrs.Luella Long, all of New Castle; three brothers, Harold R. of McKees Rocks, Philip R. of New Castle and Louis A. of Julian; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
