George W. Russo, 75, of Cochranton, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca.
He was born in Pittsburgh, July 2, 1933 a son of Joseph and Florence Lanyon Russo. He married Ruth A. Hand June 2, 1984 and she survives.
He retired in 2004 as a construction superintendent working on retail and commercial mall projects, traveling throughout the U.S.
He was a veteran the Korean War serving in the U. S. Army in Germany.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Tom Rectenwald Construction. He was an outgoing and friendly person, enjoying outdoor activities and traveling.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Ruth, include: two sons, Keith Russo of St. Petersburg, FL and Kevin Russo and his wife Suzi of Cocoa, FL; a daughter, Gwen Shaffer and her husband Victor of Clearwater, FL; a step daughter, Angela Burris of O’Fallon, MO; two sisters, Lois Smith of Monroeville, PA and Mary Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Russo.
The memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, Assoc. Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church and Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
