George W. (Ted) Smith

April 28, 1910 — February 24, 1978

George W. (Ted) Smith, 67, of Guys Mills, died Friday, February 24, 1978, after a sudden illness while spending the winter in Florida.

Born in Bakerton on April 28, 1910, he was a son of George W. and Lowella Powell Smith.  He was married to the former Lavina E. Maier on November 28, 1930.

Smith was last employed with Rusco Industries as a security guard.  Previously, he worked at the Arco Service Station at the corner of North and State streets in Meadville.  He also was employed by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a conductor.

A member of the Cochranton Masonic Lodge 790, Smith was a former officer of the Northwestern Commandery 25, Knights Templar.  He was also a member of the Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191 and Timothy Alden Council.  Smith attended the Lyona Community Church.

He is survived by his widow, Lavina; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Marks of Meadville, Mrs. Eugene (Donna) Proper of Springboro and Mrs. Thomas (LuAnn) Shorts of Conneautville; three brothers, George R. of Chicago, Warren W. of Guys Mills and Robert L. of Los Angeles; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Day of Reynoldsville, Mrs. Annie Myer of Carrollton and Mrs. Ruth Oratina of Dilltown; a half-brother, Thomas of Nanty Glo and nine grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
