Gerald A. Young, 83, of Meadville, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Vernon Township, July 17, 1915, a son of the late Edward G. and Elizabeth Jennings Young. He married Zella M. Schwavey September 15, 1937. She survives.
He retired in 1976 as an engineer with the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad after 35 years of service. He also processed deer for hunters for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Erie-Lackawanna Veterans Assn. He was also a dealer and collector of coins and a collector of sports cards for over 40 years and he had sales outlets at the Market House and the Crawford County Fair.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Helen Porter (Ralph) of Tucson, AZ, Nancy Fronce of Meadville, M. Susan Meyer (Kraig) of Westminster, CO and Sally Pleune (Ron) of Erie; a son, Charles Young of Fort Mill, SC; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Wallace Jennings and a half-sister, Mary A. Dajko.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
