Attorney Gerald D. Prather, 81, of Meadville for nearly 50 years, and was very active in community work, died Friday morning, September 30, 1983, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, after a short illness.
He was born August 17, 1902, a son of Thomas J. and Margart Kramer Prather. He graduated from Meadville High School in 1919 and received a bachelor arts degree from Allegheny College in 1923 and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1928.
Prather was admitted to practice in Crawford County courts September 24, 1928. He practiced law in Pittsburgh from 1928 to 1935, returning to Meadville as a full-time resident and opening a law office here in 1935.
He was honored by the Crawford County Bar Assn. in 1978 in recognition of his 50 years of active service in the legal profession.
He was very active in civic affair, professional and social organizations.
Survivors include his widow, the former Narcisse Snyder who he married March 2, 1935; two brothers, Thomas J. of Basking Ridge, NJ and William K. of Cochranton and a sister, Mrs. James (Marion) Charlton of Meadville. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
