Geraldine Louise (Gerry Lou) Smith

Geraldine Louise (Gerry Lou) Smith, 70, of 11910 Hatch Hill Road, Meadville, died at home Friday, May 16, 2008, after a 9 month illness.

She was born in Meadville, July 17, 1937, a daughter of Leonard and Gertrude Bradley Miller.  She married Lawrence A. (Sonny) Smith, October 6, 1956, and he survives.

She was a 1954 graduate of Meadville High School, and had worked as an aide in the Home Economics Department at Randolph East Mead High School for 4 years.

Gerry Lou was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church and was the coordinator of the funeral dinners there for 16 years.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, and sewing.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 51 years, include 4 children, Kathleen Karns and her husband, Larry of Meadville, Diane Courtney-Voss and her husband Stephen Voss of Meadville, Lawrence Timothy Smith and his companion Becky Potts of Meadville, Jennifer Bowman and her companion Bill Dustin of Meadville and John A. Smith and his companion Laura Dempsey of Townville; 9 grandchildren, Nathan, Alex, and Ashley Karns, Matthew and Renee Courtney, Lawrence T. Smith, Jr., Nolan Smith,  Jacob Bowman and Zackary Smith; her step-mother, Florence Miller; 1 brother, James Miller and his wife Florence of Meadville; her foster parents, Hugh and Elizabeth Wood of Panama, NY., and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Smith, and her brother Richard Miller.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St .Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown, with Fr. Dennis Veltri as celebrant.

Burial will be in Smith Cemetery, East Mead Twp.
