Gertrude Adeline Henry, 99, of Meadville and a resident of Wesbury Hillside Home, died on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
She was born March 9, 1914 in Meadville, a daughter of the late Orry and Eva Mallery Hibbard. She married Homer J. Henry on November 21, 1936 and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2000.
Mrs. Henry was a 1933 graduate of the Meadville High School. She was a homemaker who was very devoted to raising her family and cherished the time she spent with them. She will be remembered for her love of cooking and baking and always making afghans for family and friends. Mrs. Henry was a long time member of the St. Paul’s Reformed Church as well as its Friendly Sister’s Class.
Survivors include two children, James E. Henry and his wife Margaret of Meadville and Karen S. Shaffer and her husband David of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Daniel Toboz, Jr. and his wife MaryAnn of Chesapeake, VA, Carol Cavalier and her husband Christopher of Billerica, MA, Mary Eckart and her husband Larry of Meadville, Diane Minnis and her husband Christopher of Meadville, David Toboz and his wife Mary of Meadville, Kevin Henry and his wife Denise of Lawrence, PA, Benjamin Shaffer and his wife Cara of Haslet, TX, and Brockton A. Shaffer of Clearfield, PA; thirteen great grandchildren, Andy, Craig and Victoria Eckart of Meadville, Colleen and Meghan Cavalier of Billerica, MA; Alex, Tyler and Laura Minnis of Meadville; Weslei, Marisa, and Karisa Toboz of Meadville, and Adeline and Olivia Shaffer of Haslet, TX.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Henry; two sisters, Thelma Briggs and Betty Jean Sender; and a brother, Dr. Al Hibbard.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut, St., Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will follow on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David P. McAfee, Pastor of St. Paul’s Reformed Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Cochranton Cemetery.
