Gertrude Gaedecke

Gertrude Gaedecke, 88, of Charlottesville, VA, and formerly of Meadville and Naples, FL, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, in the Hospice Unit of Martha Jefferson Hospital, Charlottesville, VA.

She was born in East Pittsburgh, July 26, 1909, a daughter of John and Magdalena Visi Kardos.  She married Walter Gaedecke, September 2, 1933.  He survives.

A homemaker, she was a former member of the Meadville YMCA where she was an exercise instructor for several years.  She was a former member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 64 years, include a son, Cmdr. Walter Gaedecke, USN (Ret.); a daughter, Marilyn Helleberg, both of Charlottesville; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Emma DeMoss of Turtle Creek and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Gaedecke and three brothers.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in St. Brigid Cemetery.
