Gertrude L. Byham, 66, of 375 Meadow Street, Meadville died Sunday, August 01, 2004 at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a two year battle with brain cancer.
She was born November 15, 1937 in Meadville a daughter of Vinson and Helen Peterson Carpenter. She married Ralph A. Byham July 26, 1958 and he survives.
After living in Meadville and Franklin the couple retired to Leesburg, FL where she worked at the Winn Dixie Supermarket for 11 years. They returned to Meadville in 2002.
She was a 1955 graduate of the former Randolph-East Mead High School and she attended First Church of God in Meadville. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Franklin when the couple lived there.
Survivors, in addition to her husband of 46 years, include: two sons, Michael Byham and his wife Jane of Franklin and Douglas Byham and his wife Doris of Meadville; one sister, Jane Byham and her husband L. Rex of Guys Mills; two brothers, Allan Carpenter and his wife Joyce of Joplin, MO and Gordon Carpenter and his wife Linda of Meadville; two granddaughters, Julie Byham and Jamie Byham and three grandsons, Nathanael Byham, Jonathan Byham and Timothy Byham and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Temple Jarrel of First Church of God, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
