Gladys Jane Russell

Gladys Jane (Derr) Russell, 88, of Fredonia, passed away on March 29, 2022 at her residence. Born on June 29, 1933 in Transfer, PA; a daughter of the late Frank Derr and Pearl (Zuschlag) Derr. Gladys was a graduate of Hickory High School. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mercer. She worked on the family dairy farm, enjoyed playing solitaire, and most of all enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gladys was an Amish driver for many years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, MaryAnn (Jim) Harpst of Lititz, PA, and Rosemarie (Ron) Philson of Saegertown, PA; six grandchildren, Jason (Leann) McCurdy, Jeremy (Tiffany) McCurdy, Shannon Geiger and companion Aaron Rekich, Shawn (Karen) McCurdy, Kristina Harpst, and Kimberly (Dave) Staub; fifteen great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Naomi Derr; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents; Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Joseph Russell, whom she married on April 26,1952 and who passed away on May 19, 2019; two brothers, Harry Derr and Earl (Mary) Derr; and two sisters, Francis (Bob) Gilliland and Delores (Bill) Nitch. A private Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mercer. Interment will follow in Millbank Cemetery.
