Gladys F. Nichols, 87, of Meadville passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at home surrounded by her family due to complications of the Covid virus. Gladys was born December 21, 1933 in Farmington, PA. She moved to Meadville in 1943 with her parents, W. Donald and Julia A. Gaskill Hager. She attended Meadville schools, graduating in 1951 from Meadville High School.
She married Richard W. Nichols July 20, 1952 and she moved to Ft. Indiantown Gap until Rich’s discharge from the U.S. Army. They moved back to Meadville and became farmers. Gladys worked at A & P Grocery, Duerr’s Flowers and Mason’s Department Store, where she was hired before they opened and remained until after the store closed.
She was a member of Watson Run E & R Church which later became Watson Run Church of God where she was a member of the Women’s Guild. She was also a member of Vernon Central Hose Co, Stafford American Legion Post #111 where se served as Sargent at Arms and VFW Post #2006. She enjoyed her flower beds, vegetable gardening, home canning and fishing where she loved teaching her grandchildren how to fish.
In addition to her husband Rich of 68 years, Gladys is survived by her son, R. Wallace Nichols and his wife Sherry (Consla); her daughter, Robin Kline and her husband Edward Kline, Jr.; grandchildren, Julie Nichols, Philip Nichols (Ann Furry), Leslie (Simmons) Forinash (Rick), Ryan Feczko (Mark), Renee Blystone (Brian) and Edward Kline III (Jennifer Dodsworth); great grandchildren, Joe Michaud, Tyler Forinash (Jen), Brandon Forinash, Nathan Williams, Eric Feczko, Ethan Feczko foster great grandchildren, Addy and Kaylee, Marcus Blystone, Kaylee Miller (Michael Evans), Lauren Kline and Madalyn Kline; great great grandson, Micha Forinash; a brother, David Hager (Karen); sisters-in-law, Lila Holabaugh and Twila Hager; brother-in-law, Jack Hardenburg and special cousins, Sondra Cessarino, Barbara Haase and Neil Hager as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Germaine Warren; a brother, Harold Hager; a son, John Nichols and a grandson, 1st Lt. Eric Kline.
Visitation will be Monday, December 28th from 11 am – 12 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake where masking and social distancing is required.
The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Heagy, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
