Goldie Steinburg Bertschy

August 14, 1908 — January 12, 2000

Goldie S. Bertschy, 91, died Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at the home of her daughter, Sally Hotchkiss in Meadville following a period of declining health.

She was born in August 14, 1908 in Charlottsville, PA, a daughter of the late Daniel Homer and Mary Myrtle Spacht Brobeck.  She married Lawrence T. Bertschy in 1937 and he preceded her in death in 1957.

She had owned and operated the former Steinburg Restaurant in Meadville and had also worked at the former Isaly's Dairy Store, American Viscose Co., was a dairy farmer in Union Township, and was a well known pie baker and homemaker.  Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, gardening and reading.

Survivors include five daughters, Lavina Jean Rung of Meadville, Eleanor (Billie) Almgrem of Ozone, Arkansas, Bonnie Wentworth of Lewes, DE, Sue (Carol) Bruno of Conway, PA, and Sally Hotchkiss of Meadville; a son, John Bertschy of Barberton, OH; one sister, Hazel Fernberg of Saegertown; one brother, Orr Brobeck of Tyrone; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, James Bertschy and Harold Steinberg; two brothers, Harold and Ted Brobeck; and one sister, Marie McCormick.

Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
