Mrs. Grace Butler, 96, of Meadville, died Tuesday, January 25, 1977, at the United Methodist Nursing Home and Hospital where she had been a patient since January 1973.
She was born at The Dalles, OR, May 23, 1880, daughter of Andrew W. and Frances E. Clark Moore. She married William L. Butler who died in 1933.
Mrs. Butler graduated in 1904 from Stanford University where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa and did postgraduate work at the University of Grenoble, France. She taught school at Oahu College on the Island of Oahu, Hawaiian Islands; did private tutoring in California; taught at Windbrook School, a private school in White Plains, NY; and for 10 years was dormitory director at Russell Sage College, Troy, NY. After retiring she did part-time work at American Univeristy, Washington, DC.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Frances Butler, associate professor of sociology at Allegheny College.
Service were held at Waid Funeral Home.
