Grace Hawkey, 97, of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Meadville, died at home Saturday, May 4, 1996.
She was born in Sycamore, OH, February 23, 1899, a daughter of the late attorney George W. and Alberta (Rumbaugh) Pancoast. She married Dr. Vincent Grant Hawkey, May 29, 1924, he preceded her in death April 30, 1973.
Mrs. Hawkey was a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music and had taught in the public schools of Port Clinton, OH for several years. In Meadville, she had given private violin lessons.
She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon National Music Fraternity, Meadville Garden Club, Antique Study Club, charter member of the Meadville City Hospital Junior Aux. and the Ladies Advisory Committee, Honorary member of Meadville Country Club and Iroqious Club; co-founder of the PTA in Meadville Public Schools; co-founder of the Women's Aux. for the Crawford County Medical Society, member of Stone United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Sceiford of Wilmington, NC, Mrs. Wallace (Suzanne) Youngs of Amherst, VA and Mrs. James (Sandra) Scatterday, Geneseo, NY; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
