Mrs. Grace Julia Dane, 88, of Methodist Manor Health Center, Milwaukee, WI, since November 1969, formerly of Meadville, widow of Edwin E. Dane, died at the health center, Thursday, August 30, 1979, following an extended illness.
She was born in Mt. Alton, McKean County, November 13, 1890, daughter of Perry and Mary Louise Phillips Oakes. She married Dane, who was a former retail clothing merchant in Meadville, Crawford County commissioner and state assemblyman, on June 16, 1915. He died November 17, 1969.
While in Meadville, Mrs. Dane was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Beacon Light Sunday School Class of the church, United Methodist Women, Ladies Advisory Committee at City Hospital and Rota Literary Club. Mr. and Mrs. Dane operated a rooming house at Chautauqua, NY, during the summer months from 1937 to 1968. Mrs. Dane attended the Warren Conservatory of Music.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John (Marian) Stretch of Greendale, WI; a brother, Gale P. Oakes of Mt. Jewett; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
