Granville J. Morris

Granville J. Morris, 87, of Conneaut Lake, died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Meadville November 20, 1923, a son of Harold and Magdalene Smith Morris.  He married Mary Patricia Herrington March 30, 1946.

Granville was a 1943 graduate of Titusville High School and attended the former Alliance College, Cambridge Springs and Gannon University, Erie.  He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps. in the Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Wasp.

He was employed as a traffic manager in the shipping department at Telepost in Linesville and subsequently at Westinghouse and then Sunbeam in Meadville, retiring in 1989.

Granville was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake where he had been an Elder.  He was a member of the Marine Corps League which he stayed active in throughout his life as well as a member of the Lions Club of Conneaut Lake, and volunteered for the Salvation Army and many other organizations.  He was an avid gardener and he was the patriarch of his family who greatly loved him and he will be sadly missed.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Mary Patricia of 65 years, include three daughters, Beth Morris Bommarito and her husband Richard of Birmingham, MI, Sue Ellen Blount and her husband John of McKean, and Jan Marie Ganley of Erie; three grandchildren, Heather Croy, Michelle Roberts, and Michael Ganley; five great-grandchildren, Alex Timblin, Maggie Roberts, Jenny Roberts, Lance Croy, and Caroline Croy; a brother, Ronald Morris Clark of Davis, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, James Aaron Roberts and a sister, Donna Steele.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake and Monday from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake, 145 S. fifth St., Conneaut Lake.  The funeral and committal service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Mark Frailey, Pastor officiating and military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Conneaut Lake.
