Greta J. Shadley

January 1, 1930 — December 13, 1993

Greta J. Shadley, 63, of Meadville, a former Meadville City Hospital employee and an active community volunteer, died at home Monday, December 13, 1993, after an illness which lasted two and one half years.

She was born in Johnstown, January 1, 1930, a daughter of John R. and Katherine (Kitty) Zipf Nestor.  She married Charles E. Shadley, Jr. on January 15, 1955.  He survives.

She retired in 1991 as a District Chronic Disease Representative for the PA Dept. of Health after 13 years of service.  She had worked as an office manager and lab technician for Dr. John H. Bailey and she worked as a lab technician at Meadville City Hospital for 21 years.

She was a graduate of the NW Institute of Medical Technology, Minneapolis, Minn.  She was co-founder the Youth Employment Service of Meadville, and she was Y-Teen Director for the YWCA.

She had served on the board of directors for the Meadville City Hospital, and she was a member of the Meadville Medical Center Aux.  She reorganized the hospital Candy Striper volunteer program and she was active in the Hospital Aux. Charity Follies and Charity Ball.

She received the 1991 YWCA'a Outstanding Woman Award for Civic/Community Service.  She served on the Advisory Committee to Meadville City Council.  She volunteered  for the following organizations:  Big Brothers and Sisters, Friends of Probationers, the Miss Crawford County Beauty Pageant, YWCA, Community Health Services, Meadville Area Senior High School Band Boosters and the Little Gridders Program.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she formerly served as dean, elder, Sunday School teacher, choir member and youth fellowship director.

In addition to her husband, Charles, survivors include a son, Charles E. Shadley, III of Meadville; three daughters, K. Kim Shadley of Cranberry, Lori S. Koller of Wexford and Melissa S. Potts of Midland, TX; three grandchildren; her mother, Kitty Nestor of Meadville; a sister, Ardrienne M. Windahl of Frenchtown; one niece and four nephews.

She was preceded in the by her father, John R. Nestor on December 20, 1979.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in St. John's Cemetery.
