H. Raymond Ellis, 70, veteran local real estate broker, died suddenly Friday, January 19, 1962.
He was driving north on North Main Street near the Junior High School when he stopped his car and slumped over the wheel. Meadville Ambulance Service, summoned by telephone, took him to City Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause of death was a heart attack.
Mr. Ellis had been in the real estate business in Meadville for 40 years and still was active in operation of his office in the Masonic Building.
He was born in West Mead Township, November 16, 1891, a son of Charles P. and Jennie Kiser Ellis. He was a great-grandson of John Ellis, Revolutionary War soldier who settled in Meadville and was one of the founders of Allegheny College.
He and the former Emma Louise Lape were married October 22, 1912. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class of First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his widow and by two daughters, Mrs. Charles G. (Dorothy) Orr of Saegertown and Earline Kopp (Dr. George) of Oswego, NY; two sisters, Miss Lillian Ellis and Mrs. Ruth Stainbrook, both of Benton Harbor, MI and six grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
