Harold A. Mcquiston

Harold A. McQuiston, 93 of Sandy Lake, passed away on June 16, 2019 at Orchard Manor in Grove City. Harold was born in Sandy Lake on September 10, 1925 to the late Lester and Ethel Burrows McQuiston. He was a graduate of Sandy Lake High School. Harold proudly served his Country in the United States Army during World War II. Harold was a founding member of the Board of McKeever Environmental Learning Center, founder of McQuiston Insurance Agency in Sandy Lake in 1954, two years later he also established McQuiston Jewelry Store in Sandy Lake. In 1972 he was chosen to represent the National Grange during the National Watershed Congress in Washington, D.C.; and in recognition of his outstanding service to the Sandy Lake community, he was named Sandy Lake Outstanding Citizen of the Year in both 1983 and 1984. Harold is a former member of the Lakeview School District Board; a former President of the Lakeview Industrial Development Corporation; President of the Oak Hill Cemetery Assoc.; and a member of the board of Western PA Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Meadville, the board of Orchard Manor IOOF Nursing Home in Grove City, Sandy Lake IOOF #573, Lake Masonic Lodge #434 F&AM, the Mercer County Board of Views Environment Domain Code Arbitration, the Board of Sandy Creek Conservancy, Gideon International, the Republican Executive Committee of Mercer County, a 30 year Board Member for Mercer County State Bank, King of the 2018 Sandy Lake Community Fun Days, and a longtime member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church. In his free time, Harold enjoyed reading, traveling, having visited six of the seven continents, and spending time with his beloved family. Harold married his wife of 50 years, Sally Jewell McQuiston, on June 29, 1968, she survives at home. Harold is also survived by his children, Cathie McQuiston of Arlington, VA, Susan McQuiston and husband Mark Cavey of Reisterstown, MD, Bruce McQuiston of Sandy Lake, and Ellen Maloney and husband Fred of Latrobe, PA, grandchildren Ted Maloney and Adam Maloney and wife Megan, and one great grandchild, Lanae Maloney. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a son, David McQuiston, and sisters Lucille Black and Mary Wertti. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of SANDY LAKE, 3236 S. Main Street, where family and friends are welcome from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, June 19. An Oddfellows Service will take place at the funeral home at 8 pm following visitation. Additional visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Thursday, June 20, at the Lakeview United Methodist Church, 1472 School Road, Sandy Lake. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11 am at the church with the Reverend Janet Pratt, church pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery where the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will render full Military Honors. Memorials may be made in Harold’s name to Orchard Manor 20 Orchard Dr, Grove City, PA, or Lakeview United Methodist Church, PO Box 177 Sandy Lake, PA.
