Harold J. “Jack” Meader, Jr., 79, of 11154 N. Watson Run Road, Conneaut Lake died at home Saturday, August 11, 2007.
He was born in Titusville January 20, 1928 a son of Harold J. and Margaret Greenawalt Meader, Sr. His father subsequently married Susanna Knappenberger, who helped raise him.
He had a varied working career. He worked as an auto mechanic for several auto repair shops and he had his own shop on Water Street. He was also the service manager for the former Jim Taylor Motors. He also had his own television repair shop on Madison Ave. He was a 40 year member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #12 working in the area for Deeter, Stefanic and North among others. He was also a piano tuner, after attending the Rockwell School of Piano Tuning in Clearfield, PA.
He was a veteran of World War II first with the Army Corps of Engineers then with the Army Air Corps as a surveillance photographer and photo analyzer. He was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, Scottish Rite Consistrey, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, life member of the NRA and was a volunteer tax preparer for Active Aging, Inc.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed working with stain glass, hunting, fishing and traveling to the remote areas of Canada.
Survivors, include his companion of 23 years, Barbara Davies; three sons, Jonathan K. Meader and his wife Kay of Springboro, Jeffrey K. Meader of Meadville and Joel K. Meader and his fiancée Lisa Houserman of Conneaut Lake; two sisters, Nadine Harrison of Titusville and Donna Anthony of Winchester, VA; two brothers, Donald C. Meader of Waterford and Dr. Richard B. Meader of Titusville; five grandchildren, Justin Meader, Dustin Meader, Austin Meader, Sarah Meader and Meghan Meader and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and step-mother, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a granddaughter, Katie Meader.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, with Masonic services at 6: 30 p.m.
The funeral and committal will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post 2006.
