Harold R. Gable

Harold R. Gable, 83, of 5950 Stainbrook Road, Cochranton, died Monday, September 15, 2003 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born in Meadville February 18, 1920, a son of the late Delbert and Sarah Brady Gable.  He married Mary Bordac and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal with one oak leaf cluster.  He retired from the shipping department of Avtex in 1983 following more than 30 years of service.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Susan E. Gable and her fiancé Jay Hartsock of Meadville; 3 sons, Steven M. Gable and his wife Denise of Kendall Park, NJ; Richard J. Gable of Chevy Chase, MD; and Gary L. Gable of Palm Desert, CA; 2 grandchildren, Steven M. Gable, II and Cassidy E. Gable; 4 sisters, Margaret Benak of Meadville; Annabell Gable of Meadville; Dorothy Hargenrader and her husband Donald of Guys Mills; and Ethel Luzier of Guys Mills; 3 brothers, Charles Gable; Arthur Gable and his wife Nancy; and Edward Gable and his wife Lucile; all of Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Kathryne Clark and Esther Popovich; and 2 brothers, Albert and James Gable.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gerald Murphy, retired United Methodist clergyman officiating.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Pettis with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
