Harriet Mae Davis, 104, of 783 Washington St., Meadville, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
She was born December 14, 1906 in Blooming Valley, a daughter of John and Evelyn Richardson Braymer. She married Malcolm D. Davis, Sr. March 12, 1938 and he preceded her in death May 1, 1973. She was very proud of the fact that she had lived in the house on Washington Street, which she and her husband owned, for 67 years.
Harriet worked at Burch's Confectionary Store on Chestnut St., Meadville and at The Little Home Bakery, Meadville. She also was employed at Talon as a quality inspector. However, after she was married, Harriet became first and foremost a wife, mother, and homemaker. The real essence of her life always centered around her family.
Harriet enjoyed baking, sewing, and crocheting. She also enjoyed traveling to New York City numerous times to visit her family, as well as to Louisville, KY and Las Vegas, NV. Her greatest pride and joy in life were her children and grandchildren.
Everyone greatly admired Harriet for always keeping a wonderful, positive attitude. It was incredible that she always kept up with current events, family activities, and everything that was going on in the world. She was a very special person and had an amazing spirit. Her memory will be deeply cherished by her family and everyone who knew and loved her.
Harriet and her family were members of the United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sons, Malcolm D. Davis, Jr. of Meadville and Dennis Davis of Queens, NY; a daughter, Carolyn Davis Urquhart of Meadville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Urquhart of Meadville and Julie Davis of the Bronx, NY; three grandsons, Johnathan Urquhart of St. Petersburg, FL, Dennis Davis, Jr. of New York, NY, and Christopher Davis of Queens, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore, Arthur, and Harold Braymer and three sisters, Evelyn Braymer, Florence Braymer, and Alice Reed.
There are no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
