Harriet E. Smith, 91, formerly of Calvin Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there Monday, May 13, 2002 following a period of declining health.
She was born in McVeytown, PA August 15, 1910 a daughter of John H. and Lola G. Rhodes Murfin. She married Alton E. Smith May 25, 1966 and he survives.
She worked as a clerk for many years at the former Frantz Bakery here in Meadville and then subsequently worked in the dietary department at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, OH.
She was of the protestant faith.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include: three daughters, Etta Cooper of Seneca, PA, Kay Brown and her husband Neil of Meadville and Beth Erdmann and her husband William of Corinth, TX; three sisters, Viola Eaton of Mt. Pleasant, PA, Francis Clark of McVeytown, PA and Janet Gillam of Mechanicsburg, PA, eight grandchildren Deborah Martin, Donald and Karl Erdmann, Christine Forbes, Penny Jacoby, Mary Yashinski, Kelly Jacoby, Lisa Goodwill, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Mildred Newmann.
A private family service will be Wednesday at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.
Burial will be in Venango Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
