Harriott E. Hassler

March 1, 1874 — January 20, 1958

Miss Harriott E. Hassler, 83, died early Monday morning, January 20, 1958, at City Hospital.  She had been a resident of Heaster Convalescent Home, Conneautville, for the past year.

Miss Hassler was born in Cochranton, March 1, 1874.  She graduated from Meadville High School in 1895 and from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, in 1898, after studying library work.  She worked in many public libraries throughout the country, being especially interested in children's libraries.

Most of her career was spent in New York City.  She was a world traveler and resided in Rome for  a year while engaged to select books for a children's library there.  She also was librarian in a Veterans Administration hospital in Virginia.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.  She returned to Meadville where she resided for a number of years.  She also resided in Oil City for about three years until 1950.

Surviving are a sister, Miss Eleanor B. Hassler, Albuquerque, NM and two nephews, Dr. James Welty of Oil City and Walter Welty of Albuquerque.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
