Harry Burchard

Harry (Jr.) Burchard, 84, of Meadville, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born October 14, 1923 in Guys Mills, a son of the late Harry and Eleanor Rough Burchard. He married Martha Kirk November 29, 1946. Harry attended Randolph High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was employed in maintenance at GTI, Saegertown and Talon, Meadville. A member and Commander of the Clarence M. Judd American Legion Post 994, Townville, he was very active in the American Legion throughout Crawford County. He was a former member of the Meadville Elks Lodge 219, formerly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, and was an excellent carpenter from which he took great pride. He was affiliated with Saegertown United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife Martha of 61 years, include a daughter, Marilyn Dine and her husband Clarence (Dutch) of Cambridge Springs; 2 sons, Dale Burchard and his wife Brenda of Nashville, TN and Donald Burchard and his wife Joanne of Landisburg; 2 sisters, Harriet Porter of Meadville and Wanda Richael of Sandy Lake; 3 brothers, Merle Burchard, Clair Burchard and his wife Marjorie, and Bruce Burchard and his wife Nancy, all of Guys Mills; 4 grandchildren, Kimberly Galford, Mignon Dine, Amanda Burchard, and Kyle Burchard; 2 step-grandchildren, Chad Collins and Carol Gonzales; 3 great-grandchildren, T.J., Jaxson, and Olivia; 3 step-great-grandsons, Justen, Jonathan, and Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Jennie Burchard and Wilmina Jean McGinnis. Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, with an American Legion Service at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarence M. Judd American Legion Post 994, P.O. Box 53, Townville, PA 16360.
