Harry J. Dean

August 1, 1874 — January 25, 1954

Harry J. Dean, 80, widely known resident of Vernon Township, died at Meadville City Hospital, Monday.

He had been prominent in the development of the Rogers Ferry community and other residential areas in the vicinity of the American Viscose Corp. plant.

Flood control was one of his main interests over a long period of time, and in the past decade he had been an active advocate of French Creek channel improvements in the Meadville area.

He was born August 1, 1874, the son of W. W. and Sarah Johnson Dean of East Fairfield Township.  He was married to Roberta L. Cutshall in 1895, and the couple observed their golden wedding anniversary November 7, 1945.  Mrs. Dean died in 1951.

Mr. Dean was a member of Stone Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class of the church.

He is survived by three sons, Arthur and Morris Dean of Meadville and Dr. Lewis K. Dean of Philadelphia; three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Boylan, Mrs. Cecile Calvin and Mrs. Dorothy Miller, all of Vernon Township; three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Daisy Stallsmith of Cochranton, Mrs. Flora Heath of Meadville, Mrs. Emma Nason of Union City, Fred and Karl Dean, both of Erie and Ralph Dean of Perry Point, MD.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
