Harry Edward Rose, 84, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2005 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Claysville February 10, 1921, the middle son of the late Floran W. and Daisy L. Homer Rose. He married Genevieve T. Maziarz October 8, 1946.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and spent many summers on the family farm on Big Bend Hill along the Shenango River in New Hamburg. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and during World War II he remained stateside as a flight instructor training new pilots. He attained the rank of Captain and remained on active duty with the U.S. Air Force until his mid-thirties.
Mr. Rose worked for his father and uncle on their various sawmills in the Cambridge Springs and Venango areas. He also worked at Talon and later at the former Keystone Ordinance Works in the lumber division, prior to his military enlistment. Later, after completing training as an accountant, he worked in the office of Penn Union of Edinboro, and retired as office manager of Wentworth Auto Sales, Mt. Hope following 21 years of service.
He was of the Christian faith. He was a life member of the Meadville Elks Lodge #219, former member of Meadville Masonic Lodge #408, and member of the Meadville Sportsmen’s Club on Ryan Road. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the woods, especially the areas surrounding his hunting camp on Morrison Run, Warren, PA.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 58 years, include a daughter, Lynette R. Fabian and her husband Gary of Meadville and beloved grandsons, M. Garrett and Stephen Edward Fabian and granddaughter, Loralyn Rose Fabian. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Clara Rose; two brothers, Carl W. Rose and Russell Rose; and a very close relative S.C. (Mitch) Mitchell.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
