Harry Eugene "Gene" Carey

Harry Eugene “Gene” Carey, 91 of Sandy Lake, passed away on September 24, 2019 at UPMC Horizon Greenville. Gene was born in Erie on March 5, 1928 to the late Ivan Henry and Bessie Marie Dilley Carey. He was a 1945 graduate of Wesley High School and a 1946 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School. Later he attended Trade School to become a Machinist, having worked at GE in Erie, Bessemer, Vista Mill Works, and Adessa Auction. Gene proudly served his Country in the United States Army Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Gene married his beloved wife, Emma Jo Ann Dickey on December 19, 1953, she preceded him in death on October 17, 2011. Gene and his wife together owned and operated Carey’s Transportation for 42 years, providing the busses for Lakeview School District. Gene was a member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church and involved in many aspects over his years. He also was an avid bowler and shuffle board player, looking forward to play each week. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and traveling. He belonged to the Second Wind Running Club of New Castle and ran many 5K races along with his son Gale, having received many trophies for the races he ran. Gene is survived by his son, Gale L. Carey and companion Rose Thomas of Sandy Lake, sister Doris Mae Thompson of Maryville, TN, brothers Robert W. Carey and wife Doris of Millbrook, and Dale Carey and wife Lois of Grove City. In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by his sister Winifred Carey, a brother Ronald Carey and a Brother-in-Law, William Thompson. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of SANDY LAKE, 3236 S. Main Street, where family and friends are welcome from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday, September 27. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 11 am on Saturday, September 28, with the Pastor Sally Bell, Associate Pastor of Methodists United in Faith, officiating. Full Military Honors will follow the funeral service. Interment will take place in Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
