Harry J. Guthrie, Jr., 69, of Cochranton, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1950 in Grove City, a son of Harry J. and Dorothy M. Staudt Guthrie, Sr. He married Christine Swavey March 10, 1970 and she survives.
Harry attended Cochranton High School and was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving from 1970 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. He worked at Morco in Cochranton for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor.
A member of St. Brigid Church, Harry was also a member of Cochranton American Legion Post 836. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, arrowhead hunting and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Christine, include a daughter, Christine Andrews of Hartstown; a son, James Guthrie (Connie) of Townville; six grandchildren, Lachelle Lindsey (Nick), Landon Andrews, Lindsey Andrews (Fiancé Skyler Saulsbery), Cienna Guthrie, Joseph Guthrie and James Guthrie; a great-grandson, Trystan Saulsbery; three sisters, Dorothy Gage of Cochranton, Mary Jane Bennett (Ed) of Alva, FL and Betty Perry of Cochranton; a brother, John Guthrie (Shannon) of Meadville; a sister-in-law, Debbie Bowler (Dave) of Guys Mills; two brothers-in-law, Dana Swavey (Alice) of Cochranton and Scott Swavey (Lori) of Meadville; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Dale Gage and Robert Perry.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 30th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville with Fr. Andrew M. Boyd as Celebrant and military honors provided by Cochranton American Legion Post 836.
Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans of the Vietnam War, Inc. (for Operation Support Our Troops), P.O. Box 771, Meadville, PA 16335.
