Harry L. Hanstine, 87, of Meadville, died Friday, January 09, 2015 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.
He was born in Meadville October 30, 1927 a son of Harry J. and Alice M. Johnson Hanstine. He married Christine M. Ramey, August 28, 1965 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Marine Corps from 1945-1949. Following his military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin for electrical engineering. He worked at Dad’s Dog Food for many years and then at Talon Inc. retiring as supervisor of Plant 7 in 1992.
He was a 32º Mason and was a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge #234. He was a member and Past Monarch of Kismet Grotto, Past President of the Crawford County Shrine Club, Past President of both the Pennsylvania and Ohio Grotto Associations, member of the Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie and was a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honour.
He was a member and past commander of Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post 2006, member of American Legion Post #111 and Elks Lodge #219. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed building the rec room on his house and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Christine of 49 years, include: four children, Karen Heron and her husband Kevin of Ashtabula, OH, Thomas Hanstine and his wife Sally of Pomery, OH, Kimberly Martin and her husband Gerry of Florida and Tion Piehler and her husband Gary of Conway, PA; eleven grandchildren, Michelle Brock and her husband Timothy, Melissa Backman, Michael Potts and his wife Snow, Sasha Buckingham and her husband Andrew, Brandi Potts, Mark Kohne, Curtis Hanstine and his wife Lauren, Rebecca Hanstine, Allison Hanstine, Tyla Piehler and Garin Piehler; fourteen great grandchildren and a sister, Janet Smith of Guys Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Rick Potts and Gerald Eugene Potts.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The Masonic service will follow at 4 p.m. followed by the funeral service with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church and Robert Keas, Grotto Chaplain, officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Monday at 10 a.m.
