Harry L. Wentworth

Harry L. Wentworth, 72, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, July 3, 1963 at Meadville City Hospital.

The Meadville man was best known for his long service - four terms - as a Crawford County commissioner; although he had been a Randolph Township Dairy farmer for the many years and had been associated with an automobile dealership at Mt. Hope for 33 years.

He began his 16-year service as a county commissioner in 1940, retiring in 1956 without again seeking re-election.  During his incumbancy, the Crawford County Fair - of which Mr. Wentworth was first president - was established in 1946 and the courthouse remodeling was completed in 1954.

He was elected to the GOP State Committee in 1958.

Mr. Wentworth operated a large dairy farm and also raised draft horses for about 40 years before moving from Randolph Township into Meadville in the fall of 1946.  He had been associated with his sons in the Wentworth automobile agency and garage at Mt. Hope and just a few days ago was honored for having been a Ford dealer since 1930.

He had served as first president of the Canadohta Lake Improvement Assn. and still was active in work of that organization.  He was a member of Mt. Hope Methodist Church and of Meadville Kiwanis Club and the Black Ash Sportsman's Club.

The widow, Mrs. Kerna G. Wentworth, survives, as does a daughter, Mrs. G. Stewart Hoffman of Meadville; and two sons, Gaylord O. and H. Paul, both of Guys Mills and eight grandchildren.

He was born in Mercer County, a son of John C. and Celestia Harry Wentworth.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
