Harry R. Pierce, 96, of Waterford and formerly of Mt. Hope, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his residence after a beautiful life of faith, family and friendship.
He was born November 12, 1925 in Blooming Valley, a son of William and Cynthia Roudebush Pierce. He married Nita Grace Hollabaugh April 2, 1947 and she preceded him in death September 2, 2017.
Harry was a 1943 graduate of Randolph High School. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1944 to 1948. Harry worked as a car inspector for the Erie, Erie-Lackawanna, and Conrail Railroads for 48 years.
He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church and in later years of Chapmanville Community Church. Harry was a also a member of Masonic Lodge 408, Scottish Rite Bodies, Kismet Grotto, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, the Crawford County Motor Patrol, and the Cochranton American Legion Post 836. He enjoyed coin, stamp and gun collecting. He was a kind, fun loving man with a wonderful smile and laugh. He loved to tell a good joke and could always be found to have a great-grandchild on his lap.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Sheckler (John) of Saegertown and Teresa Cook (Daniel) of Waterford; two grandchildren, Rebecca Hasenkopf (John) of Saegertown and Dr. Tyler Cook (Stacey) of Waterford; four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Judah, Noah and Anna Cook; two sisters, Joanna Leavenworth of Grand Rapids, MI and Thora Schweitzer of Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service on Wednesday, November 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 29034 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills with the Rev. Alice McClymonds officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.
