Harry W. Scott, Sr., 83, of Rogers Ferry Road, Meadville, passed away suddenly Sunday, September 25, 2011 at his residence.
He was born April 9, 1928 in Hadley, a son of Ralph and Altha Meanor Scott. He married Ruth Marie Turner August 28, 1946 and she survives.
Harry worked on the railroad at age 12 and was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany at the age of 16. He retired as a pipefitter from local 120, Cleveland, OH following over 30 years of service.
Harry was affiliated with Denny Chapel, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. He loved his large and extended family and will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Ruth of 65 years, include two sons, Harry Scott, Jr. and Donald Scott and his wife Beverly, all of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Jason Scott and his wife Brenda of Atlanta, GA, Jon Scott of Atlanta, GA, Laurie Scott Kantz and her husband Eric of Meadville, Leslie Scott Loveland and her husband Chris of Cambridge Springs, Bessie Scott of Manassas, VA, Ellen Scott Cummings of Meadville, Rebekah Scott Crain and her husband Jimmy of Tulsa, OK, and Jason Conner and his wife Suze of Columbia, MO; fifteen great-grandchildren, Jonathon Scott, Tristin Scott, Drew Loveland, Kennedy Loveland, Savannah Loveland, Julie Cummings, Jacob Cummings, Braeden Kantz, Carmen Kantz, Kylie Vogel, Joey Crain, Jocelyn Crain, Sydney Scott, Christopher Yalen, and Marlee Conner; two sisters, Patsy Caughey and Lois Sanders, both of Florida; two brothers, Robert Scott and his wife Mary of Sandy Lake and Lyle Scott and his wife Helen of Sheakleyville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen A. Scott; a brother, Bill Scott; and three sisters, Sarah Hawkins, Doris Rector, and Ella Mae Grossman.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Donald Scott, son and Pastor Dave Jenkins of Denny Chapel, co-officiating.
Interment will be in Denny Cemetery.
