Hazel Gertrude Galford Judd Goodwill, 89, of Sebring, FL for the past 25 years and formerly of Saegertown, died peacefully Monday, October 3, 2011 at her residence just 16 days after the death of her beloved husband, Forest.
She was born in Pocahontas County, WV January 29, 1922, a daughter of Frank and Ida Gum Galford. She married Clarence M. Judd in 1941. He was killed in action in World War II in 1944. She subsequently married Forest W. Goodwill July 2, 1947 and he preceded her in death September 17, 2011. They were married for 64 years.
A 1940 graduate of Townville High School, she worked for several years at GTI in Saegertown. She also worked at Talon, Keystone View Co., and in the school cafeteria in the Saegertown Schools. She retired with her husband in 1980.
While living in Saegertown, she was active in the Rebekah Lodge of the IOOF, the Saegertown Women’s Improvement Club, and she was affiliated with Grace United Methodist Church of Meadville. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was active in her children’s schools.
She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, travelling, playing cards, boating, fishing, and crafts. Over the years, she taught many people to water-ski while her husband drove the boat. Always active, she water-skied on her 65th birthday.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Judd Britt and her husband Robert Britt of Chadds Ford and Ida Goodwill Merritt and her husband Fiorenzo Bettoni of Denver, CO; two sisters, Kathryn McGraw of Sebring, FL and Eula Orr of Lakeland, FL; a brother, Harold Galford; four grandchildren, Robert Britt and his wife Kristina of Memphis, TN, Laurin Britt Rossetti and her husband Andrew of Milford, DE, Steven Merritt and his wife Shannon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Scott Merritt and his wife Anna of Ridgecrest, CA; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Weed, Virginia Root, and Audrey Galford an infant; one brother, Allen Galford; and a granddaughter, Karin Britt Knightly.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
