Hazel Irene Smith

Hazel Irene Smith, 84, a resident of Beverly Health Care Meadville, died there Monday, May 23, 2005.

She was born in Wayne Twp., Crawford Co. September 24, 1920 a daughter of Edward and Florence Roche Malliard.  She married Ira Samuel Smith January 20, 1940 and they were married 51 years until his death March 9, 1991.

She was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and East Mead Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary.  She loved to play cards and she belonged to the St. Brigid 55+ Card Club, the card group at the Eagles Club and the Meadville Community Center.  She liked to do puzzles, read and do needlework.  She also liked to bake cookies at Christmas time.

Survivors, include: six children Irene Furno and her husband Dom of Meadville, Donna Carroll and her husband Bobby of Sharpsville, IN, Charles Smith and his wife Nancy of Blooming Valley, Pearl Bierman of Saegertown, Ruth Gandelot and her husband Paul of Cardington, OH and Judy Alexander and her friend Charlie Thomas of Blooming Valley; 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Mary Bowman and Gladys Kimmel and one son-in-law, John “Jack” Bierman.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Christine Rogan, Pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
