Hazel J. Williams Gaub

April 29, 1916 — January 30, 2005

Hazel J. Williams Gaub, 88, formerly of 658 North St., Meadville, and a resident of La Canada, CA, died at her residence Sunday, January 30, 2005 at 4:00 a.m. following a brief illness.  She had resided in California with her daughter Terry, son-in-law, and grandsons since 1999 but always considered Meadville her home.

She was born in Meadville April 29, 1916, a daughter of the late William John and Hazel Douglass Williams.  She married S. Frederick Gaub September 6, 1941 and he preceded her in death February 22, 1975.

A graduate of Meadville High School, she continued her education and in 1938 became a certified beautician employed by the Vanity Fair Salon of Meadville.  She was a devoted homemaker until the early eighties when she was employed by the Meadville Chapter of the Easter Seal Society.  During her later years she enjoyed traveling with her daughters, visiting Holland, Hawaii, New York, Canada, the eastern seaboard, and driving cross-country to California where she enjoyed the west coast scenery and attractions.

During her life in La Canada, Mrs. Gaub accompanied her daughter Terry around town and assisted her with the construction of the costumes for Church of the Lighted Window’s annual children’s Christmas pageant in the early 90’s.  She was also a member of Descanso Gardens and enjoyed many of the gardens floral and musical events.

She was a former member of Stone United Methodist Church, Meadville.

Survivors include two daughters, Karan Gaub Snyder and her husband Tom of Willow Grove and Terry Gaub Gordon and her husband Henry of La Canada, CA; two grandsons, Kyle and Scott Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Williams Rice, Donna Williams Bodder, and Maxine Williams; and a brother, William John (Jack) Williams.

Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William L. Brown, Associate Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
