Mrs. Hazel Umstead, 78, of New Bethlehem, died at Bashline Memorial Hospital, Grove City, on Wednesday, May 3, 1972. She had been hospitalized for 10 days.
Mrs. Umstead was born near Cochranton on September 16, 1893, a daughter of Ira B. and Mary Heath Cutshall. She and Mr. Umstead were married in 1927. Mrs. Umstead was employed by Keystone View Co. for 10 years in her earlier life. She and her husband moved to the New Bethlehem area in the late 1920s. She was a member of New Bethlehem First United Methodist Church, the Women's Society of Christian Service of the church and the Senior Citizens. She was past president of the Woman's Club of New Bethlehem. She attended Meadville Business College.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Mrs. Allan (Carolyn) Shaffer of East Springfield; a son, Merle E. of Arlington, VA; three sisters, Mrs. Luella Greggs of Cochranton, Mrs. Jessie Gaub of Meadville and Mrs. Karl (Virginia) Gilbert of Guys Mills; five brothers, William Cutshall of Guys Mills, C. Ellsworth, Gordon and Floyd H. Cutshall, all of Meadville and J. Arden Cutshall of Cochranton; and three grandchildren.
One son, J. Carl and a sister, Ruby, preceded her in death.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Cochranton Cemetery.
