Helen Mary (Markiewicz) Carr

Helen Mary Carr, 71, of Meadville died Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Meadville Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born December 19, 1948 in Port Jervis, NY a daughter of George and Helene Dorothy O’Malley Markiewicz.  She married David L. Carr August 4, 1973 and he survives.

She was a 1967 graduate of Meadville High School, received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Education from Edinboro University in 1971 and 1977 respectively.  She was a teacher for over 30 years at the Meadville Junior and Senior High Schools.  She enjoyed dancing, music, Hallmark movies, the Christmas holiday and spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.

Survivors, in addition to her husband David of 46 years, include a son, Michael Carr (Beth) of Meadville; a daughter, Lori Carr of Meadville; two grandsons, Zachary and Greyson Carr and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George S. Markiewicz.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 24th from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 6:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 25th at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute (Benevolent Fund), 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.

Helen and her family would like to thank the staff at the Barco Oncology Institute especially Dr. Han and her nurses Julie and Sharon for their wonderful care.
