Helen E. McEwen, 89 of Fairview Twp, Mercer, passed away on August 14, 2023 at Orchard Manor. Helen was born on February 9, 1934 in Grove City to the late Paul and June (McCommons) Miller. She was a 1953 graduate of Princeton High School, Lawrence County. She worked for many years as a home care worker and doing house cleaning.
She was a member of Coolspring Presbyterian Church and a previous member of the Rebekah Lodge of Mercer. She enjoyed cross stitching, embroidery, quilting, and crocheting. She also had a green thumb and loved raising African violets and orchids.
Helen married her beloved husband: Paul L. McEwen on February 9, 1956. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1992.
She is survived by her son: John (Roberta) McEwen of Florida, grandchildren: Scott (Melissa); and Amy, great-grandchildren: Mackenzie; Tyler; Andrea; Samantha; and one more on the way, brother: Richard (Harriet) Miller, sisters-in-law: Charlotte McEwen; and Erla Milliren, niece: Kim (Gary) Kaltenbaugh of Greenville, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Roberta Minteer and Wanda Kane, and 2 brothers: Paul L. Miller Jr and Clarence “Sonny” Miller.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where visitation will be from 1 – 3 pm on Friday, August 18. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Millbank Cemetery, Fredonia.
