Helen I. Carpenter, 88, formerly of Guys Mills, died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
She was born in Meadville March 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Samuel and Henrietta Randall Peterson. She married Vinson R. Carpenter September 11, 1936.
A Christian woman, she was a homemaker and enjoyed extensive traveling.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Vinson of 70 years, include a daughter, Jane Byham and her husband Rex of Guys Mills; 2 sons, Allen D. Carpenter and his wife Joyce of Joplin, MO and Gordon R. Carpenter and his wife Linda of Meadville; a sister, Imogene Carpenter of Carlisle; 2 brothers, Carl Peterson of Ohio and Arthur Peterson of Tennessee; 8 grandchildren, Barbara Byham, David Byham and his wife Cindy, Richard Byham and his wife Sandy, Dianne McCauley and her husband Jim, Michael Byham and his wife Jane, Douglas Byham and his wife Doris, Samuel Carpenter and his wife Courtney, and Michele Pardee and her husband Tim; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Gertrude and her husband Ralph and a brother, Austin Peterson.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral and committal service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Alice McClymonds, Pastor of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Memory Support Center, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
