Helen K. Hornstein

November 23, 1921 — January 19, 2015

Helen K. Hornstein, 93, of Meadville, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at her daughter’s residence in Saegertown following a period of declining health.

She was born November 23, 1921 in Conneautville, a daughter of Charles and Mary Sasala Kelyman.  She married Donald O. Hornstein September 20, 1947 and he preceded her in death November 30, 2000.

Helen was a graduate of Meadville High School and worked at Talon.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church, Meadville.  She loved walking, was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, cooking and trying new recipes.  Helen especially enjoyed being with her family.

Survivors include three children, K. Dale Hornstein and his wife Sharon of Port Republic, MD, Karen Hopkins of Saegertown, and Donald A. Hornstein and his wife Linda of Conneaut Lake; six grandchildren, Stacey Joslin, Kenneth Hornstein, James Hornstein, Christopher Hornstein, Alan Hornstein, and Ryan Hornstein; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hriso of Meadville and Irene Smalley and her husband Gene of Girard; a brother, Peter Kelyman and his wife Norma of Meadville; her caregiver and special friend, Denise Conn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, David Davis; a great-grandson, Graydon Hornstein; a son-in-law, Stanley Hopkins; six brothers, Joseph, Charles, Paul, Andrew, George and John Kelyman; and a sister, Anna Dean.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Temple Jarrell, Pastor of New Beginnings Church of God, officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
